I am sure everyone is doing better and better!

We are doing some websites now, as i had mentioned in a previous email...WELL, i find myself in need of assistance.

I am dealing with scripting for websites. If you don't have any idea what that is, stop reading now and delete this email. Unless you know someone who does, in which case, have them read this email and reply if they can help.

If you do know what scripting is and understand CGI, then read on!

All i need at this time is a plain and simple CGI script that will take data from an HTML file and post it to an existing data table in a MYSQL database.

I am pretty sure i know how to modify any script to match the form/database table combos i am working with, so no worries there.

The difficulties i have experienced are these;

I just haven't been able to get the "plug-in" CGI, PHP, and other scripts that our webhost (Hostmonster.com) has available to work. They are all automatically generated and automatically put into the directories and files of our website. They just don't work, for reasons i don't understand.

I have made sure that all the pathways are correct...at least the ones i can find in the scripts. Some of them don't seem to have the pathways in them at all, even though they were supposed to have been automatically generated at the time of installing the various applications! I called tech support and THEY couldn't find the correct pathway in a few of the "wizard" generated PHP scripts created by the form generator.

I have made sure all the correct files are in all the correct directories, even to the point of duplicating all the files into all the directories to see what it would do (under the direction of the Chief Envisioneer of our little company)...

I have realized that the main problem is that in order to use the apps, etc., that our webhost has available, one must have an understanding of PHP, CGI, Perl, etc. so as to fit them to the individual website.

I don't know these things yet, but i am learning.

I can write HTML so i have no problem creating/modifying the form/s we need.
I know how to direct the form to a CGI script in our /cgi-bin/.
I know how to direct a functioning CGI in the /cgi-bin/ to an existing table in an existing MYSQL database.
I know how to create MYSQL databases and tables in the databases using PHPMyAdmin.

I don't know much else.

I don't know how to write CGI scripts, but i have a bit of a clue (not exactly sure i know enough to modify them to match the form they are written for, but that part seems to be pretty similar to the way HTML does it, so i think i can handle it).
I am absolutely clueless about PHP, Perl, Java, c, c++, Ajax, and all the rest.
I have no idea where to put any of it!
I don't have any time to learn! I need to have an active form on our sites immediately!

All that is needed is something simple that will work right now while i learn how to do the fancy stuff. I feel that once i have a functioning CGI i will be able to extrapolate the means of creating/modifying CGI scripts for other apps, like guestbooks and banner ads.

Anything you could do to help will be greatly appreciated.

Love and blessings to all!
Jesudas Baba, aka, Bhaktamrita Swami, Rinpoche, Sensei, Rabbi ben Tokin', and lots of other useless names!
